June 3, 2010 FILLING THE VOID

Choose love instead of fear. You will choose love when you give to others, you also give to yourself. You will choose fear when you withhold from others, you also withhold from yourself.

Another way of saying this is to ask why God gave you two hands. The answer is simple although I couldn't answer it 16 1/2 years ago. One hand is to help others, while the other hand is to help yourself.

Yesterday, I blogged about cravings. Hopefully today your cravings will be less because you understand them better. You eat more intelligently. Hopefully, with nearly two months of blogs, you already had a hint of that. It always needs reinforcement. By eating smarter, shopping better and cooking lighter, you stop self-medicating by unconsciously using extreme bad foods, alcohol or even sex as the mood-altering drug. Your self-prescribed medication can be viewed as an addiction, which is the third lifestyle change to be discussed in the future.

Look around. Think about friends, family, partners and even yourself. Are you operating in a confused state? Are you as fast as a rabbit (my Nanny used to call me her jackrabbit)? Are you constantly looking for things to fill a void? Are you constantly doing things to fill a void of unhappiness? So you stop the cravings which once filled the void but now there is something new? You are eating better, but now you constantly shop on QVC or on the Internet from your office (during work time)? Are you now doubting yourself and trying to blend in with others? Now instead of grabbing a cookie, a 4PM Starbucks or Coke, you might start looking for external gratification--material or sexual gratification? Yes, I said sexual gratification.
Superficial (quick sex) relationships can be gratifying at that moment, but will not fill the void you are feeling.

Where are you feeling that void? Is it a knot in your stomach or clammy hands? Yes, I would be lying if I told you that I never fill a void with a materialistic item. But my choices are much healthier today. Materialistic items can only go so far.

True joy and contentment only come from within. The good thing is that this true joy is available to you at any time you want it.

I needed to write about this today. It was a need....

The above needle craft is needle point. It was first seen on this BLOG on March 12, 2010. It was unframed and not made into a pillow at that time. I love this needlepoint of the famous Hotel del Coronado.
