JANUARY 4, 2011 PEACE AND A REBEL WITH A CAUSE

" Peace is one of our greatest needs because it provides for the strength we need in times of turmoil."

Who doesn't want peace ? It seems the quote is talking about peace of mind.
Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm - it comes from becoming still - in
order to reflect and meditate on our inner wisdom and receive answers. A
peaceful heart is one that is free from worry and trouble. It's becoming quiet
so we can look at things quietly so we can more clearly understand them and
thus come up with creative solutions. It is learning to live in the present. If we have peace we have an easier understanding of the 'things' that used to baffle us. We will know a new life. The worst turmoils will seem calmer with our newly found inner peace. Try to find a peaceful area in your home where you can meditate and breath. This is of the utmost importance--to have your own space.
I find that without peace of mind many things cannot be accomplished. More can be accomplished when your thoughts are still

A smile is the beginning of peace.- Mother Theresa

I have always discussed various types of diets. One diet, the ESSELSTYN DIET is very interesting. Remember I do not believe in any single diet. I believe eating in moderation and definitely a low carbohydrate lifestyle. I do believe that heart disease can be reversed with dietary lifestyle changes, exercise, medications, supplements/herbs and a meditation/yoga program. In Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., M.D. , he claims his groundbreaking program backed by the irrefutable results from his 20-year study proving changes in diet and nutrition can actually cure heart disease. We all know that heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States for men and women. Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., a former internationally known surgeon, researcher and clinician at the Cleveland Clinic, explains in his book that heart disease can be prevented, reversed, and even abolished. Dr. Esselstyn argues that conventional cardiology has failed patients by developing treatments that focus only on the symptoms of heart disease, not the cause. I wouldn't argee that conventional cardiology and technology has failed us. I still refer many patients for valve replacements, stents and bypass if needed. I utilize EECP ( see www.naturalbypass.com) when appropriate

Dr. Esselstyn convincingly argues that a plant-based, oil-free diet can not only prevent and stop the progression of heart disease, but also reverse its effects.

He states that "the proof is in the results. The patients in Dr. Esselstyn’s initial study came to him with advanced coronary artery disease. Despite the aggressive treatment they received, among them bypasses and angioplasties, 5 of the original group were told by their cardiologists they had less than a year to live. Within months on Dr. Esselstyn’s program, their cholesterol levels, angina symptoms, and blood flow improved dramatically. Twelve years later 17 compliant patients had no further cardiac events. Adherent patients survived beyond twenty years free of symptoms.

I believe in some aspects of his book. If you have HEART DISEASE this is what his book tell you--

1. Do NOT eat meat
2. Do NOT eat chicken, even white meat
3. Do NOT eat fish
4. Do NOT eat any dairy, including cheese
5. Do NOT eat eggs
6. Do NOT use ANY OIL ( not even virgin olive oil )
7. Do NOT drink juice
8. Do NOT eat nuts, even walnuts unless you do NOT have heart disease
9. Do NOT eat avocados
10. Do NOT eat coconuts
11. Eat soy products cautiously
12. USE ONLY Whole Grain products. No white flour. Avoid semolina and wheat flour.
13. Do NOT eat white rice
14. EAT ONLY brown rice

At the end he states, The Rest of the World of VEGETABLES, FRUIT, LEGUMES and WHOLE GRAINS is YOURS."

I honestly do not think I could follow this lifestyle. I hope there is some type of recipe book.

I cannot fully agree with Dr. E. Call me a rebel. I also didn't fully agree with Dr. Atkins. I am a Rebel WITH A cause, not without a cause.
I cannot agree with no oils or no nuts. Peanuts ,I can say are not the best choice, but almonds and walnuts have been proven to be beneficial for heart disease as well as other conditions. I agree with no red meat, but what is wrong with mercury free fish from Vital Choice ( www.vitalchoice.com) There are numerous studies to advocate the benefits of the oils(EPA) from quality fish.

I agree that white flour is death. White flour converts to sugar faster than table sugar, thius making white carbohydrates have a higher glycemic index.

I want you to read this book in conjunction with other books. Read books by Steve Sinatra MD , W. Wilcott, MD, " Metabolic Typing Diet", Pamela McDonald's , Apo E Gene Diet, and Andrew Weil's, Spontaneous Healing.

It will be enlightening

Until tomorrow...
