October 8, 2010 LIVE IN THE SUNLIGHT, NOT THE SHADOW OF BROCCOLI

"There is a divine plan of good at work in my life. I will let go and let it unfold-"
--Ruth Freedman

You cannot do it alone. Many have tried. Few have been successful. Many have let go and let things unfold at another's will. The 'another' - call it what you will. Your divine spirit, your GOD, the GOD of your understanding, or even your helper. You may call it Heaven, maybe the trees, or the beauty of the world. It is even referred to as Good Orderly Direction. Today I let things unfold. It has not been easy. It does take time. I know I have not let go of some things. Today with meditation and prayer, there are fewer things left to let go of.

I would rather let someone else orchestrate the band. Or better yet, I want someone else to conduct the orchestra. It is true that the members of the orchestra are all the people, places and things in my head. Personally, I have seen too many people with anger and resentment who cannot let go get a disease. Serious diseases like cancer and heart disease. Letting go of a relative who constantly disappoints or hurts you, letting go of an ideal, letting go of a volunteer project, letting go of a love relationship. Live life in the sun with 'someone else' conducting the orchestra.

I have seen impressive results in treating hypothyroidism with iodine, lifestyle dietary changes, and herbs. There is not one herbal formula that works best for everyone. This is what makes herbs so unique. People react differently to them. The dosages are not the same. I continue to be amazed at how an herbal mixture will elicit different responses from different individuals. The formula needs to be suited to the individual. I may make a 100 to 120 ml mixture of Gotu kola, 30 ml, Siberian ginseng (Eleuthro)20 ml, Motherwort 10 ml ( L. cardiaca), Ashwaganda (Withania) 30 ml, and possibly 10 ml of Prickly Ash ( Zanthoxylum).

This formula is only an example. It will vary from individual to individual.

I do know that it will stimulate the thyroid and increase the thyroid levels. The herbs listed above have adaptogen properties with the exception of the motherwort. The motherwort treats palpitations related to the thyroid. I included it since this is a "supposed" patient. The other herbs improve mental clarity in addition to being adaptogens.

I might give 30-90 ml (1/2 to one full dropperful) of the mixture two to three times a day.
This is not an exact science, but for me and many individuals more integrative than you can get otherwise.

Who wants mother earth/herbs/plants to treat your condition?

If you need immune and lymphatic support you add other herbs. If you need blood sugar balance you might add rosemary or fenugreek. Please remember HERBS are drugs. Consult you health care practitioner at all times.

Other supplements I would hope you are on if you have thyroid disease include fish oils or flaxseed oil. One to two tablespoons per day. Do not forget your B vitamins, especially niacin, riboflavin and B6. I like to add selenium and zinc if you are not already taking. Usually a good multivitamin tablet, capsule or powder contains all the trace minerals.
Watch out for the cruciferous vegetables. Exercise and drink plenty of water.

LIVING IN THE SHADOW
from Musical: Victor/Victoria

Living in the shadows,
Hiding from the sunlight,
Hiding from the one light that might help to guide you.
Hiding from tomorrow,
Hiding from the day,
Only brings a sorrow
That won't go away
Wand'ring in the darkness,
Living ev'ry midnight,
Doesn't ever rid night of nightmares as love might.
Life is full of dangers,
Strangers ev'ry turn.
Living in the shadows,
That's no way to learn...
The more you learn,
The more you seek,
The more you find,
The more you care,
The more the world is kind.
One thing I can tell you:
Life should be your lover,
Help you to discover your reason for being.
Soon you will be seeing
What you're all about.
Living in the shadows,
You'll never find out.
Living in the shadows
I'll never find out...

Until tomorrow...
